On the 13th of January 2020 ISRA ran the Northern Beaches Summer Youth Program, bringing together Muslims from around the area to participate in invigorating activates and developing integral bonds aimed to strengthen their knowledge and connection to Islam. The program not only targeted the mental and spiritual connection of its applicants but also the physical health of the each participant with a fun and challenging sports program.
With a wide target audience of 4-18 the program aimed to explore how the body functions as a gift from Allah and how keeping it healthy is, in itself a form of ibada. The group learnt the importance of healthy food and exercise; making health snacks and participating in groups yoga promoting unity within the diverse community. Each participant walked away a with a strong community at their back and a newfound respect for their body and the ways they can keep it healthy in order to respect it as a gift from Allah.
