Revive the spirit of Ramadan with ISRA’s Ramadan preparation workshop. This workshop is designed to jump-start your Ramadan covering various aspects of fasting including fiqh, spirituality and mental health. 

Program Details

7.15pm: Maghreb Prayer

7.30pm: Spirituality 

7.50pm: Mental health 

8.15pm – 8.30pm: Break

8:30pm – 9.30pm: Fiqh of Fasting

Light refreshments will be available

The Fiqh session is only open for 16+ years age group.

Ustadh Abdulhadi Shah-Idil – Fiqh of Fasting

Abdul Hadi Shah-Idil is a teacher of Islamic law and classical Arabic. After graduating with a First Class Honours in Economics from the University of New South Wales, he spent two years abroad studying Arabic and the Islamic sciences. Since returning to Australia in 2012, he has furthered his studies, particularly in Hanafi Fiqh under the tutelage of Dr Salah Abulhajj. He is currently a masters candidate in Hanafi Fiqh and Usul at WISE University, Jordan, and presently teaches at Charles Sturt University, ISRA Academy, and Daar Ibn Abbas.

He has also recently launched the Australian Institute for Hanafi Studies which aims to provide practical guidance and contemporary solutions based on the Hanafi tradition.

Sr Leila Khaled – Spirituality of Fasting

Leila started teaching Islam officially from 1993 to Muslim students in NSW public high schools.

Leila received Ijaazaat in Tajweed, Tafsir, Uloom al-Quran and Shamaa’il. Leila completed degrees in Commerce, Master of Islamic Studies, and Teaching.

Currently Leila is a manager of ISRA Quran Academy where she teaches tajweed and Hifth. Leila is also undertaking her PhD where she is researching a new pathway to positively impact adolescent spiritual wellbeing through Islamic education.

Dr Omar Mograby – The Impact of Fasting on our Mental Health

Dr Mograby is currently specialising in Psychiatry, after several stints in various surgical specialties, emergency medicine, and rural general practice. He is currently completing a Master of Science (surgical science and practice) at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

Dr Mograby commenced his health professional career after completing a Diploma in Remedial Massage and a Diploma in Integrated Body Therapy. Upon completion, Dr Mograby worked as a massage therapist whilst completing a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Osteopathy. He was awarded the Dean’s Medal for his academic excellence and lifetime membership to the International Golden Key Honour Society. After several years in private practice as an osteopath, Dr Mograby completed his medical degree with first-class honours at the University of Notre Dame.

Alongside his medical practice, Dr Mograby has been involved in tertiary education for the past 20 years, having taught over 20 different university subjects. He is also a reservist member of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps with the rank of Captain.
